Which felt mallet is right for my Singing Bowl?

Which felt mallet is right for your Singing Bowl depends on its size, wall thickness, intended use, and desired sound. In general, felt mallets areoften usedin sound massage for strike Therapy Singing Bowls xml-ph-0001@deepl.internal.

As a rule of thumb: The larger and heavier your Singing Bowl, the larger, softer, and heavier the felt mallet should be. A mallet that’s too small can make a large singing bowl sound tinny—a mallet that’s too large can muffle the sound of a small singing bowl. For thin-walled Singing Bowls, such as the Universal Bowl, soft felt mallets are more suitable, and for thick-walled bowls, such as the small Heart Bowl or the large Heart Bowl, medium-hard or hard felt mallets are more suitable. In our product descriptions, you’ll find detailed recommendations on which felt mallet is best suited for your Singing Bowl .

How does the hardness of the felt mallet affect the sound?

The softer the felt on a mallet, the gentler and warmer the sound tends to be. A soft felt mallet brings out the fundamental tone of the cymbal more strongly. A harder felt mallet produces a more direct attack and makes it easier to play brighter frequencies and overtones. A combination of different felt mallets allows you to bring out a wide variety of timbres on your Singing Bowl .

How do you use a felt mallet for " Singing Bowls"?

Place your Singing Bowl on your flat hand without letting your fingers touch the bowl. Hold the felt mallet loosely in your other hand and lightly strike the Singing Bowl along the upper rim. Play using your wrist, not your entire arm. Then pull the mallet back immediately so that the Singing Bowl can swing freely. The force of the strike and the position of the mallet head significantly influence the volume and tonal character.

Which felt mallet should I buy?

If you want to buy a felt mallet, you should first and foremost choose one that matches your Singing Bowl, your needs, and the sound you're looking for.

When choosing a felt mallet, you should keep the following in mind above all:

Felt Hardness
If you prefer a warm and mellow sound, we recommend a softer felt mallet. If you want to produce a clearer and more direct sound with more overtones, a harder felt mallet may be the better choice.

Single mallet or double mallets
Do you want a wider variety of sounds, do you work with multiple Singing Bowls , or do you want to use the mallet in sound meditations, sound massages or sound therapies is a double-headed mallet is often a good choice.

Handle Length
Longer handles can provide more momentum than shorter ones. Therefore, felt mallets with longer handles are often used for larger Singing Bowls , while those with shorter handles are used for smaller ones.
