Gongs & Gong Stands
Product Safety Regulation (GSPR)
These product safety instructions are for the sustainable handling of our gongs.
We source our gongs from India or our Chinese manufacturing facility, where gongs are forged from a bronze alloy using pure copper and tin in a centuries-old tradition. The different gong sizes are distinguished by their diameter and vary between 0.5kg and 35kg in weight.
Since each gong is a forged unique item, certain deviations from the parameters we define (diameter, weight) are possible. In addition, each gong has individual characteristics resulting from the manufacturing processes. This includes, for example, slight scratches, discolorations or small inclusions of coal. However, these characteristics do not affect the sound character of the gong, which undergoes several quality checks before being sold.
Due to the nature of bronze, the gong can react to the environment, especially in humid conditions, and tarnish (partially). This is a natural process that also occurs with regular use with mallets and by touching it with hands and fingers if the gong or the mallet used to play the gong is not cleaned regularly. However, any patina that forms on the metal has no effect on the gong's sound properties. The gong should only be played with suitably appropriate mallets so that the material and sound quality are preserved.
Each of our gongs undergoes several quality controls to ensure there are no material or manufacturing defects and to guarantee a corresponding sound quality. After successful testing, our Hess Sound quality seal is always placed inside the gong, indicating the respective quality level (“Premium” or “Classic”). The respective packaging is marked with an EAN code, and we pack our gongs for shipping with the materials already used during import and in recycled cardboard boxes.
The gong should be struck mindfully and not too loudly, as its sound volume may be perceived as unpleasant if the distance to the ear is insufficient. The gong can be played by people of all ages, but due to its volume, weight, and metallic nature, it should only be played by children under adult supervision until safe handling has been learned. Care should also always be taken to ensure that the gong is positioned securely within a suitable stand, as some specimens are naturally quite heavy. In addition, especially with children, attention should be paid to the intensity of striking the gong and/or the distance to the instrument, as the instrument can generate a high sound pressure that can be stressful for the hearing.
Beyond their intended use as relaxation, meditation, music, or therapy instruments, gongs can also be used for decorative purposes.
If the gong tips over or falls to the ground with or from its stand, it can break or tear due to the inherent material tension. If this happens, you can contact us to find out how to handle the instrument afterwards so that it remains playable if possible. If the gong has been irreparably damaged, it can be returned to Hess Sound GmbH & Co. KG – we will then take care of the disposal.
Gong Stands
These product safety instructions are for the sustainable handling of our gong stands.
Our gong stands are handcrafted using ecologically certified and oiled beech hardwood. The individual sizes of the gong stands are differentiated based on the height (58cm – 157cm) and width (58cm – 148cm) and vary between 2kg and 13.5kg in weight.
Since each gong stand is a handcrafted unique item, minor deviations from our website or catalog photos are possible in terms of visual properties (wood color) or parameters defined by us (diameter, weight).
Each gong stand undergoes a quality control check to ensure there are no material or manufacturing defects. The packaging is marked with an EAN code, and we pack our gong stands for shipping with cushioning flakes made of potato starch and in recycled cardboard boxes.
Two people should be involved in assembling the three-part Gong stand to safely assemble the elements. No tools are required. Before a Gong is hung in the Gong stand, the tight fit of the retaining hooks should be checked again. The Gong stand should only be used to hang Gongs and should always be kept dry or stored dry so that the material strength is maintained.
If the gong stand is damaged, please do not hesitate to contact us regarding any parts that may need to be replaced. The gong stand can be disposed of as waste wood without any problems once the screwed metal hooks have been removed.
