Spherical Sounds – Intuitive Playing

The Sansula is a unique evolution of the Kalimba – a traditional instrument with metal tongues originating from Southern Africa. With just a minimal touch, you can create a warm, expansive, and almost meditatively flowing soundscape. The vibrations of the Sansula Renaissance originate in its metal tongues, are absorbed by the wooden block, and then transferred to the sound membrane. This creates a spherical, floating, and overtone-rich sound that gently fills the room and resonates for a long time.

This Sansula produces an exceptionally long, floating sound with strong overtones and a soft, almost spherical depth.

Sound

The sound of the Sansula is warm, soft, and particularly rich in overtones. The vibrations of the metal tongues are first absorbed by the wooden block and then transferred to a sound membrane. This allows the sound to be heard for much longer and blend smoothly with the next note. The special tuning – where octaves are close together – enhances this room-filling soundscape.

Manufacturing and Materials

The Sansula is carefully handcrafted in Germany. Its resonance block is made from solid American cherry and European beech. Both woods come from sustainable, tropical wood-free sources. The surfaces have been treated with vegetable linseed oil, which protects the wood and highlights its natural grain.
