Traveling with singing bowls: arriving on the go with these exercises

Traveling often means more than just getting from A to B: every journey also brings you a little closer to yourself. Whether you are actually traveling in another country or city or want to treat yourself to a mindful break in everyday life, sound can accompany you on any kind of journey. A handy travel singing bowl and simple exercises can be used anywhere: in a hotel room, in the park or simply at home. And when wanderlust calls but your suitcase stays in the closet, the sounds of a singing bowl can take you along in a different way, on your very own inner path.

The Peter Hess® Therapy Singing Bowl – Travel Bowl goes everywhere with you

With its handy size, the Peter Hess® Therapy Singing Bowl – Travel Bowl is the perfect companion for any trip. Thanks to its low weight, it fits easily into your carry-on luggage and you can take it anywhere. The slightly higher tone of the singing bowl helps sharpen your focus and gives you a sense of freshness.

This singing bowl is ideal for various exercises and self-applications that can be done on the hand and its reflex zones, whether on the flat of your hand or on your fingertips. Especially with jet lag, a self-application with a singing bowl is also a valuable aid for quickly arriving in the here and now. You can also use the singing bowl to activate the end points of the meridians.

Simple singing bowl exercises for traveling

In this blog article, we would like to introduce you to some exercises and self-applications that you can do anywhere and at any time with the Peter Hess® Travel Bowl. The exercises with singing bowls are designed to be flexible and easy to use, even in stressful or hectic situations. They promote not only relaxation and mindfulness, but also arriving in the here and now, by combining simple techniques such as listening to your singing bowl with your breathing.

Singing bowl exercise 1: body journey

  1. Find a quiet place: Look for a place where you will be undisturbed for a few minutes, even if it is just a small corner of your hotel room or the airport.

  2. Place the singing bowl on a soft surface: For example, place it on a cushion or a blanket to optimize the sound. When you are on the go, simply place the singing bowl on the flat of your hand or on your fingertips.

  3. Breathe in deeply: Close your eyes and breathe in and out deeply a few times. Focus on arriving in the here and now. Try to let go of any thoughts that distract you and bring your attention to the moment.

  4. Gently strike the singing bowl: The resonance of the singing bowl will help you stay in the moment. Pay attention to the sound that envelops you.

  5. Listen to the sound: The sound of the singing bowl spreads, passes through your hands and reaches every cell of your body. You can imagine the sound activating the reflex zones of your hands and stimulating the end points of the meridians, giving you fresh energy.

  6. Focus on one or several parts of your body: For example, start at your feet and work your way up. Feel how the sound flows through your body and helps you relax.

  7. Let the sound fade slowly: Gently open your eyes and take a moment to reflect on how you feel now. Have you noticed a change in your perception or in how your body feels?

Singing bowl exercise 2: perceiving your surroundings (sounds, smells …)

  1. Choose a quiet moment and place: Find a quiet spot, whether in the park, at the airport or in a café. A comfortable chair or a spot on the floor is also enough.

  2. Close your eyes and breathe in and out deeply: Concentrate on your breath and let go of all thoughts. If you like, you can activate the reflex zones of your hands by placing your palms together and rubbing them quickly.

  3. Hold the singing bowl in one hand or place it on a stable surface: Gently strike the singing bowl and direct your full attention to the sound.

  4. Listen attentively: Try to concentrate on the sound and block out all other noises. Also notice how the sound spreads and resonates within you.

  5. Perceiving your surroundings: Now pay attention to the sounds around you, the smells and the feeling of the ground beneath you. Try to be fully in the moment and perceive your surroundings without judging.

  6. Let the sound fade slowly: Gently open your eyes. Reflect on how you feel now. Are there any changes in how you perceive your surroundings?

Singing bowl exercise 3: sound journey

  1. Choose a quiet moment and place: Look for a place where you can withdraw for a few minutes.

  2. Strike the singing bowl: Listen to the sound as it gradually spreads.

  3. Visualize a peaceful place: Close your eyes and imagine the sound taking you to a calming place, perhaps a beach, a forest or another place that brings you relaxation.

  4. Enjoy the details of this image: Try to connect the sounds of the singing bowl with your imagination. Imagine how the sound supports you energetically and lets you immerse yourself more deeply in these peaceful surroundings.

Singing bowl exercise 4: breathing exercise with sound

  1. Sit down in a quiet place: You can do this anywhere, whether in a hotel room or in a park. Find a comfortable sitting position that allows you to relax.

  2. Gently strike the singing bowl: Breathe in deeply while you listen to the sound.

  3. Hold your breath: While the sound fades, hold your breath. Feel the connection between your breath and the sound.

  4. Breathe out slowly: As you create the next sound, breathe out slowly. Repeat this a few times and concentrate on the connection between your breath, the sound and your body. Notice how you arrive more in the moment with every breath.

Singing bowl self-application: mindful exercises with two singing bowls when traveling

The exercises with two singing bowls help you promote mindfulness and presence by bringing the sounds of two singing bowls into harmony with the natural sounds of your surroundings.

Tip: Our Peter Hess® Therapy Singing Bowls – Travel Set contains two Therapy Singing Bowls in Premium quality, a matching double felt mallet and a singing bowl bag with two pouches. Thanks to its compact size, this set is not only easy to transport, it is also well protected, and with the practical bag you always have everything at hand.

Singing bowl exercise 5: sound massage with the Travel Set

Recommendation: Use the thicker/softer mallet head of the double felt mallet for the Universal Bowl and the thinner/harder mallet head for the Throat Bowl.

Find a comfortable place:
Look for a quiet and comfortable place where you will not be disturbed. For example, lay a mat or a soft cloth on the floor, or choose your bed. Lie on your back and find a relaxed position.

Positioning the singing bowls:
Place the Universal Bowl on your belly, roughly at the level of your navel, and place the Throat Bowl on your chest, directly over your heart.

Start with the first singing bowl:
Begin with the Universal Bowl on your belly. Gently strike the singing bowl with the thicker mallet head. Let the sound ring for a few seconds and feel the vibrations in your abdomen. Breathe in and out deeply and evenly.

Switch to the Throat Bowl:
Now gently strike the Throat Bowl with the thinner mallet head. Let the sound ring for a few seconds and feel the vibrations around your heart. Notice how your chest rises and falls as you breathe.

Strike them alternately:
Now alternate between the two singing bowls. Start again with the Universal Bowl on your belly, followed by the Throat Bowl on your chest. Strike each singing bowl 2–3 times and let the sound linger for a few seconds each time. If you like, close your eyes. Notice how the vibrations feel in your body.

Conclusion:
Now put the Throat Bowl aside, strike the Universal Bowl a few more times and let it fade out on your body. Enjoy the calm for a moment and then put the Universal Bowl aside as well. Relax for a few more minutes before returning to your everyday life.

Singing bowl exercise 6: mindfulness and presence in nature, with the Travel Set or two singing bowls of your choice

Recommendation: Here, too, use the thicker/softer mallet head of the double felt mallet for the Universal Bowl (alternatively: a lower-sounding singing bowl) and the thinner/harder mallet head for the Throat Bowl (alternatively: a higher-sounding singing bowl).

  1. Find a comfortable place outdoors in nature: Once you have found a place, sit down comfortably on the ground or on a bench so that you can listen well to the sounds of nature around you.

  2. Breathe in and out deeply: Close your eyes for a moment and let your breathing become calm and even. Concentrate on your breath and become aware of your surroundings. Begin to breathe slowly and deeply. Feel how your lungs fill with fresh air and how you become calmer with every exhalation. Let the journey move you, but stay calm inside.

  3. Start with the Universal Bowl (alternatively: a lower-sounding singing bowl): Take your singing bowl and hold it in front of you. Strike it gently so that the sound rings out slowly and clearly. Notice how the sound spreads and fills your surroundings. Follow the sound and feel how it brings you into the moment.

  4. Let the sound fade: Observe how the sound slowly dies away. As it becomes quieter and quieter, pay attention to the other sounds around you: the rushing of the wind, birdsong, the rustling of leaves or other sounds you may not have noticed before.

  5. Introduce the Throat Bowl (alternatively: a higher-sounding singing bowl): Now take the second singing bowl and repeat the same process. Strike it gently and let the sound spread. You may notice that the sound is different or has a different quality. Feel the vibration of the singing bowl in your hand.

  6. Alternate between the singing bowls: Place the singing bowls in front of you and now strike them alternately. Notice how the sound of the second singing bowl blends with that of the first. Observe whether the sounds resonate with each other in the air and how they influence your perception of your surroundings. Feel the vibrations in your body.

  7. Shared sound: After you have played both singing bowls, now strike them together so that a harmonious, full sound emerges. Notice how the singing bowls come together in harmony and how the sound keeps spreading. Consciously hold on to the moment of silence after the sound.

  8. Close the exercise: End the exercise by striking both singing bowls together so that a harmonious sound emerges. Hold this sound consciously and feel how it brings you into harmony with nature and with yourself. Breathe in and out deeply.

  9. Reflection: Take a moment to think about how you felt during the exercise. Did you notice a change in your perception? Were you able to connect with the sounds of nature?

  10. Gratitude: Before you put the singing bowls away, take a moment to be grateful for the experience and the sound.

Tip: For exercises when traveling, we recommend our compact Kids Double Felt Mallet with a soft and a hard side.

Singing bowl exercise 7: mindfulness and sound journey, with the Travel Set or two singing bowls of your choice

Recommendation: Here, too, use the thicker/softer mallet head of the double felt mallet for the Universal Bowl (alternatively: a lower-sounding singing bowl) and the thinner/harder mallet head for the Throat Bowl (alternatively: a higher-sounding singing bowl).

  1. Sit cross-legged: If that is not comfortable for you, feel free to choose another comfortable sitting position.

  2. Place the first singing bowl: Place the Universal Bowl (alternatively: a lower-sounding singing bowl) on your thighs or on the floor in front of you so that you can easily strike it in a moment.

  3. Place the second singing bowl: Take the Throat Bowl (alternatively: a higher-sounding singing bowl) in your hand and strike it gently.

  4. Perceive the sound: Let the sound unfold and notice the tone as it slowly fades away.

  5. Strike the second singing bowl: While the sound of the Universal Bowl fades, lightly strike the Throat Bowl and let this tone slowly fade away as well. Repeat this.

  6. Add circular movements: While the Universal Bowl on your legs (or in front of you) is still sounding, now strike the Throat Bowl in your hand and make gentle circular movements with it in front of your body. These movements should be calm and mindful. Make sure you always circle the singing bowl at the same speed so that the sound remains constant and calm.

  7. Feel and hear the sounds: Try to feel the sound of the singing bowl and hear how it changes as you continue the movement.

  8. Close your eyes: Breathe in and out deeply. Concentrate only on the sound of the singing bowl and the flow of the movement. Imagine the vibrations passing through your body and bringing you calm and relaxation.

  9. Let the sounds fade slowly: Feel how the room is filled with the vibration.

  10. End the exercise: Close the exercise by opening your eyes and remaining in silence for a moment. Breathe calmly and evenly.
